There are a host of exciting changes going on in the World of web application development ...

HTML5

Now that Apple, Google, Twitter (and many other leading edge organisations) have made the leap into the world of HTML5 there is no reason for any web developer not to bite the bullet and adopt. The fact that iPhone, iPad, Ruby on Rails, Groovy and Rails (and more) are HTML5 based just clinches it.

Ruby and Rails

When we first looked at Ruby on Rails, there were quite a few things that didn't quite click - we preferred the Groovy and Grails model. But with the release of Rails 3, many of the early niggles have been removed, and Rails is now more mainstream - coming pre-installed on Apple Macs. There is now a version (MacRuby) for developing Mac applications with Xcode.

iPhone and iPad Applications

Life is getting very interesting. Objective-C takes some getting into (and boy is it verbose) but the MVC paradigm is familiar and Xcode 4 has some very nifty developer tools.
